What is The Mission of Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.?

The mission is sustained in two primary goals:
    1.  To ensure the development of youth and their families into healthy, productive and self-sufficient members of society.
    2.  To empower the community to take collaborative responsibility in making positive change.

What is The History of Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.?

Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. (Youth Organization United to Help) is a non-profit grassroots organization founded by Sylvia Bolling with the help and support of her family and the community. Established by relationships in the Aldine community the organization has been able to offer support to area youth and their families since 1990. Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. develops programs that support and nurture success, helping youth to develop self-esteem from positive experiences helping them to become more productive self-sufficient members of our society. Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. has been able to fill many of the emotional, educational, and physical gaps left by existing agencies and programs. This is accomplished mainly through our organizations networking with area families and the various community entities that are concerned about and supportive of our youth.

Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. ‘s target service area encompasses a two-mile radius of US Highway 59 North and Aldine Mail Route. Within this boundary are 10 schools, 5 subdivisions, 5 apartment complexes and many businesses and churches. More than 65% of the students in our target area schools are economically disadvantaged. Many of the youth in our area have no place to go and no plans for the future. Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. offers a place where the kids that are doing well can be role models for others by volunteering to be peer tutors. We also have many youth that successful work with our summer program, learning responsibility and gaining leadership skills that lead to valuable work experiences. Concerned community adults who have the desire to make a difference, volunteer many hours and accept the responsibility of fostering positive changes for youth and people of all ages.

During the first 5 years of operation, there was no facility, no paid staff, and very limited funds. By establishing valuable community partnerships, Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. offered needed programs and services. In February 1995, Houston Endowment, Inc awarded Aldine Y.O.U.T.H  with $50,000. This money was used to make the down payment on the Community Center located at 4700 Aldine Mail Route. Acquiring the Community Center has allowed Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. to expand its programs and offer many new services and activities for the entire community.

The Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. Community Center is a visible catalyst bringing our community together for the sake of our future generation. Our organizational grassroots concept can be and should be duplicated in communities throughout the city.
